Am I too old to play video games, read comics and watching anime?

I’m 26 years old, female, I love watching anime (old school not that scrappily animated newer stuff) and playing video games ranging from the old school Nintendo like Zelda, and SNES Secret of Mana, Xbox, Xbox 360, (like Halo and Marvel Alliance) Playstation 1 – 3 (Silent Hill, Final Fantasy etc) and Gameboy games. I love to read Marvel, Dark Horse, DC comics and Manga. I collect dinosaurs – anything to do with them from posters to Japanese capsule figurines, and still have a love for My Little Pony and He-Man.

……I just want to know, am I too old for these things? I don’t see my self out growing video games or dinosaurs any time soon. These things make me so happy. I want to live my life but I’m so worried about what other people think of me that I’m immature…

No, it is not immature at all. You have to remember, video games used to be primarily a kid´s thing back in the 80´s when they were still a relatively new concept, but people who grew up in the 80´s are in their 20´s and 30´s now.

Games, thus, have matured accordingly and are not the kiddie things they used to be…but rather a whole other form of entertainment with various genres for all ages.

I just turned 30 myself, and I still play PS3.

It is just another form of entertainment, and some games can be just as engaging as the best novels (perhaps even more so, due to the fact that it is interactive…especially if it´s one where you make your own character). There is just so much that goes into games (and anime for that matter) from a wide variety of disciplines. Artists, writers, choreographers, actors, and even stunt men and women (for motion capture)…all contribute their artistry to games nowadays.

Anyone who thinks it´s immature probably just lacks the sophistication to understand that art can be appreciated in many forms. Games, anime, comics … they are all art forms.

If you can see the beauty in something that others cannot, then it´s their loss, right?
