How can I change this file format?
I have a security camera video that has a really rare file format, a VVF file. I have no idea how to change this. Windows Media player doesn’t support this file format. I have a special software program for my security camera DVR, ( the DVR has a usb port where I can transfer the footage to a flash drive) But even the program doesn’t support the VVF file format. I also get error messages with the program, It says I don’t have a HDD or CF card. Now, I know my PC has an HDD, but a CF card? That’s for cameras.
The program is PC Viewer V3.8. I got it from the tech support center of CIB Security Company (brand of my cameras)

That is the problem with buying cheap DVR products that are made in china they don’t use proper standards making them very difficult to use and often don’t include proper watermarking and encryption which can means they will quite often not stand up in court.
Hopefully the company you bought it from has some tech support that speak English as there first language.
Aslo many client’ss and viewer programs are not compatible with many PC platforms and OS’s so I suggest you try it on a different PC or call the manufacture and see if they have an updated client/viewer program.
A good DVR does not require a client or viewer it should burn playback software when it burns video bellow is a right up i did regarding why brand name DVR’s are worth the money and why its not worth buying cheap CCTV equipment.
A good DVR should make it very easy to view backup and distribute recorded video across different PC platforms.
(AVP-4120 DVR) Smart Backup Backup has never been easier or faster once you have found the video by either time or search. Simply input the time and cameras you want and backup via USB 2.0 drive. When you backup video the playback software is automatically installed on the flash drive eliminating the need for codec’s or special programs saving both time and money.
Not all CCTV equipment is created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying levels of performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can buy the equivalent of a $1,000 golf cart and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that is where the similarities end, it’s under the hood that counts. And using the car analogy you would be getting a golf cart that need the engine replaced if you spend $300.
Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $60.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means it’s not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 2% which means they can’t afford to offer service or allow for RMAs (returns). Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.
Now some products can be made cheaply like ipod cases, screen protectors, and other simple products with no moving parts or electronics. DVRs need to be good quality as they run 24/7 (20X more than the average electronic device) and process anywhere from 30-480 frames per second which in a year is over 15 billion images, and a good DVR should last 3-5 years.
A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day and are one of the few products that can’t be made both well and cheaply. Cheap and inexpensive products like Q-see, Swan, Lorex, and other low grade DVR’s sold by Tiger Direct, Newegg, Sams Club, are not used by security professionals and should only be used to to see if the baby is sleeping and even they cost over $300 and don’t offer nightvision.. You mase well get a web cam and point it at the area you want to see.

Two good economical DVRs I would recommend are Ascendent’s AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco’s DX-400. They will allow you to view all your cameras instantly from anywhere in the world using either IE, or a client software. The AVP-4120 uses the latest H.264 codec to improve streaming and recording time, and will allow PCs and Apple computers to remotely view cameras. These are the DVRs I would recommend that are good quality and affordable.
